The moment the calendar flips to the first, the entire house transforms.
Suddenly it smells like peppermint, cinnamon, molasses, and just a tiny bit of joyful chaos. My mixers don’t get a single day off this month — not even one. There are days I swear they’re whispering, “Lucille… seriously?” but they still power through because they know it’s showtime.
Cooling racks take over every inch of counter space. The dishwasher runs like it has its own overtime shift. And Ron? He likes to pretend he’s “checking on things,” but we all know he’s sneaking warm edges of blondies like he’s on a secret dessert mission.
And Mozi? Don’t worry — he’s upstairs in the loft, curled up on the couch, completely removed from the baking, just keeping me company from his cozy perch.
